POTTERY

The Jeremiah 18 Pottery is a ground-breaking mission-supportive Character Initiative program designed and started in October 2014 by Master Potter Liz Ringus. The program is a ministry outreach supported by the women of Holy Apostles Church in Barnwell, SC. The program is set up in a well-equipped room at the education wing in Allendale. Equipment includes 7 pottery wheels, an electronic kiln, pug mill, extruder and slab roller. Multiple work tables, glazing area, shelf and book storage and individual tool buckets for each apprentice make this program one of the most popular in the yard. Each pottery apprentice pays for clay, glaze supplies, and materials, and the church sponsors several scholarships for the men. This instructional program teaches history and chemistry of pottery, and cultural self motivation and patience, along with how to refine and promote their work upon release.
